Mausoleum Osendorf

Elisabeth High School presents the Sinti Mausoleum in Halle-Osendorf

On Open Monument Day, young people in grades 9/10 at Elisabeth-Gymnasium Halle will open the mausoleum of the Weinlich Sinti family in the deconsecrated Halle-Osendorf cemetery to the public. The monument, which has been used as a burial site since 1915, has been an important extracurricular learning location for the students for several years. In a monument activity project last school year, they studied its design and symbolism, the architecture of the building, and its state of preservation. Through intensive engagement with the site and its past, the group significantly deepened their historical and cultural knowledge. In the course of the project, the importance of the mausoleum and its preservation for the commemoration of the victims of National Socialism in the city became clear to all participants. In a follow-up project in the current school year, the young people want to accompany and document the upcoming restoration of the monument.
The project group will present the results of their work to date on September 14 with an information stand and guided tours of the building. There will also be an opportunity to talk to representatives of the civil society network for the preservation of the mausoleum.

Time: Sunday, September 14, 2025, 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Location: Former Osendorf Cemetery, Karl-Meißner-Str. 43, 06132 Halle
